Kobe Paras, Most of the time the vicious dunks of NBA superstar Lebron James of back-to-back NBA champion Miami Heat ends up in video highlight reels in various news outlets, including the US-based ESPN or on the popular website YouTube.
It’s rare to see a dunk on James from an opposing player.
And it’s even out of the ordinary to see a Filipino teenager throwing one down on the 6-foot-8 James, the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) considered now by many as the best ‘ball player’ not just in the NBA but in the planet.
That’s what Kobe Paras did when he put one vicious tomahawk dunk on James during the latter’s Philippine Tour dubbed “Witness” presented by Nike last Tuesday at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.
James was actually conducting drills on local participants, which include the Gilas Pilipinas, several top collegiate players and 16-under Philippine Team, where Paras – son of PBA two-time MVP Benjie Paras – is a member that recently won the FIBA-Asia 16-under title.
During the lay-up drills, James started swatting shots on several 16-under players. It was on that moment when Paras took a pass from one of his teammates, made one dribble then he took off. James jumped a bit but it was too late as Paras was already airborne.
Bam! James has been ‘posterized’ by Paras.
On ESPN, the video clip had a title “Kobe Paras Dunks In Front Of LeBron” and it lasted for 21 seconds. Its caption was “LeBron James gets dunked on during a layup line by Kobe Paras at a Nike promotional tour in the Philippines.”
On YouTube, the video was a little longer – 30 seconds – with a title “The Filipino Kobe dunks over LeBron!” which also showed Paras getting chest bumps from two teammates as they celebrated what they witnessed.
