National Grid Ma, A rare October snowstorm hit Easton Saturday night, closing some roads and leaving some residents without electricity Easton on Sunday.

More than 600,000 Massachusetts residents woke up on Sunday without electricity and Easton was not immune. More than 100 residents in the area of ??Bay Road and Borderland State Park near lost power.

The storm knocked down three telephone poles in Bay Road, just north of the road to Beaver Dam. Cables also fell into Allen Road and Highland Street.

From 7:30 pm, large areas of Easton had been restored, but still cuts were scattered throughout the city. A regional shelter was opened at La Salette Shrine, 947 Park Street, Attleboro for those still without power.

National Grid gave no specific timetable for the restoration of power but urged customers to call 1-800-465-1212 or 1-800-867-5222, with cuts and trees. The company said the additional equipment that is called from Ohio, Michigan and North Carolina.

National Grid also urged customers to follow safety measures such as avoiding power lines.

“First, we urge customers to be sure. After snow of this magnitude so early is an unusual event for us, even in Massachusetts, but National Grid has been prepared and ready to face this winter season ahead. We are in full recovery mode, “said Marcy Reed, president of National Grid Massachusetts in a statement. “It’s our job to provide safe and reliable power to our customers and for adverse events, our role is greater. We can not stress enough that people should stay away from downed power lines and surrounding areas.
