‘Killer’ Swan Attacks Caretaker, A bird dubbed a “killer” swan attacked its caretaker paddling a kayak in Des Plaines, Illinois last weekend. Sadly, the man, a father of two, died without a life insurance policy. Why did the typically gracefully bird turn on the man?
Citing a 4/15/12 story from the Chicago Sun Times, the 37-year-old man Villa Park resident works for a company that uses dogs and swans to keep nuance geese from soiling and destroying properties.
When he went for a routine inspection of the area at Bay Colony condominiums, one of the resident swans attacked the hapless man, who was nestled in a kayak at the time.
According to a witness, the man tried to fend off the aggressive bird, but his vessel tipped over and submerged him. Authorities were called, but it was too late. The man, who was a good swimmer, apparently drowned due to the boots and heavy clothing that dragged him underwater.
While it was a job, Henely enjoyed his responsibilities with animals. His father-in-law has a theory about how the caretaker died in the “killer” swan attack:
“Maybe he didn’t fight back enough when the swan attacked him. Maybe he didn’t want to hurt the animal. I can’t understand how this was possible,” said George Koutsogiannis.
